Pengaruh Intensitas Konsumsi Korean Wave Terhadap Aktivitas Keagamaan Siswa SMA AL Bidayah Batujajar

Abstract

The globalization of culture through the Korean Wave or Hallyu has attracted the attention of adolescents worldwide, including in Indonesia. Korean popular culture encompassing K-Pop, dramas, lifestyle trends, and digital technology is considered to influence young people’s ways of thinking and behavior, particularly in relation to religious engagement. This study aims to determine the level of students’ exposure to the Korean Wave, describe their religious activity, and examine the effect of Korean Wave exposure on religious activities among students at SMA Al Bidayah Batujajar. This research employed a quantitative approach with an associative-causal method. The sample consisted of 137 students selected through stratified proportional sampling based on their level of exposure to the Korean Wave. The research instrument was a validated and reliable questionnaire, while data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and the Spearman Rank correlation test. The results revealed that students’ exposure to the Korean Wave was at a moderate level (58.99%), while their religious activities were at a high level (77%). The Spearman correlation test indicated a significant negative relationship between Korean Wave exposure and students’ religious activities, with a correlation coefficient of -0.087 and a significance value of 0.01 (<0.05). This means that higher exposure to the Korean Wave is associated with lower involvement in religious activities, although the influence remains weak. Thus, it can be concluded that the Korean Wave has a significant but low effect on students’ religious activities at SMA Al Bidayah Batujajar.
